CQ Rural Health provides a student house in Emerald which is an accommodation solution for medical students wanting to complete rural work experience.
Central Queensland Rural Health currently manage two houses in Emerald. Exposing medical students to a positive rural experience during their studies increases the chances of them wanting to return and practice in the ‘bush’. These houses are managed in partnership with particular universities, however students attending other universities can also utilise both houses.

A partnership with the University of Queensland has resulted in Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery students completing their rotations in Emerald and residing in a comfortable four bedroom home. This highset house is fully furnished including cooking and linen requirements. Each bedroom has a bed and storage cupboards for clothing and is air conditioned. there is NBN connection for the internet. there are two fully screened verandas, a BBQ and laundry facilities.
James Cook House
CQRH works conjointly with The Centre for Rural and Remote Health (CCRH) – James Cook University to provide accommodation for predominantly Allied Health and Nursing Students for their rural placements. This house is a 3 bedroom highset house – fully furnished including linen and cooking requirements. Each bedroom has a bed and storage cupboards for clothing and is air-conditioned. There is wireless connection for the internet. There are two fully screened verandas and laundry facilities.
Central Queensland Rural Health has met the requirements of the ISO 2001:2015 Quality Management Systems Standards.
